Under Armour Takes Heat For Maryland Uniforms

Under Armour is taking shots from the debut of their new University of Maryland uniforms. The Nike – Oregon relationship has helped that university’s football program to flourish. Can UA and Maryland enjoy the same fruitful relationship?

Maryland’s uniforms last night were certainly different. There is no true and honest opinion that can differ from that perspective. In my opinion, they were a bit much. They weren’t very pleasant on the eyes. In fact, it was the helmet that was by far the worst part.

We’ve seen Oregon rep some “out there” uniforms provided by Nike. The experimental uniforms that Nike has provided to Oregon have been hit or miss. Those yellow ones are questionable. However, some color schemes, such as the one from this past weekend’s game with LSU, are great.

As everyone knows, Nike is in bed with Oregon. Nike’s CEO, Phil Knight, went to the University of Oregon. On the other coast, the University of Maryland is exploring a similar relationship with Under Armour. UA’s CEO, Kevin Plank, is a Maryland graduate. He seems ready to help push the Maryland-UA relationship to that Oregon-level of sports marketing.

Maryland Terps Operation 54K

Maryland is trying to brew up some more interest in the teams home opener this week. The team has the Miami Hurricanes coming up to College Park for this Monday’s big ESPN game. It will be the second hurricane to come up the Atlantic coast and visit Maryland in less than a week.

The university is asking fans to color coordinate according to which section they are seated in. This isn’t just a “white out” or a “black out”. It’s not one solid color, or even two. Maryland is looking to achieve four different colors in four parts of the stadium.

It’s an ambitious idea for the university. In light of the recent news pertaining to The U, I am looking forward to what signs fans will be able to get on TV. There will undoubtedly be some scandalous, and hopefully clever, signs for Miami’s first national TV broadcast since the allegations. Terps fans can often be hit or miss. We will see if they show up on Monday.

Randy Edsall Ditches Uconn For Maryland

Of all the black Monday coaching news, this is my personal favorite. In actuality, it seems that Edsall’s departure from Storrs was a done deal days ago.

After getting beat by 4 touchdowns on Saturday night, Edsall did not tell his team that he would not be returning next season. He clearly knew that was the case though. Edsall informed the school that he and his family would not be taking the chartered flight back to Connecticut, and that he would not be returning to Storrs at all.

Edsall said in his Monday presser that he called about 40 players the next day to fill them in.
