Laffin’s NFL Survivor/Suicide Pool Picks: 2010 Week 3

So I am coming into week 3 with a .500 record this year, blowing week one on San Fran, but coming through with some extra padding picking Green Bay in week 2.  In fact, not that this affects the pool in any way, but Green Bay beat Buffalo worse than Seattle beat San Fran, so I’ll use that to tell myself I am doing better than I am.  Getting back to the slightly less “sure-fire” picks this week, so we’ll see how that works out.

Alright, my previous picks, and my pick for this week:

So after a miserable outcome in week 1, I am coming into week 2 with a little more caution.  So I thought that San Fran over Seattle was a pretty safe pick, but if you look at traditional ways (such as points) to measure winners versus losers, than San Fran lost, and lost bad, like… really bad.  In fact it was such a horrific beating that Mike Singletary forgot how to act after a loss and even thanked Pete Carroll for the massacre.  I have a new strategy now, I call it the Andy “Brink” Brinker strategy: “pick better.”  If you understood that reference, you are awesome, if you didn’t, watch more Disney made for TV movies.

Laffin’s NFL Survivior/Suicide Pool Picks: Week 17

**Just because the regular season is about to end doesn’t mean this column will be stopping. I have entered a playoff pool, so I will be picking EVERY playoff game and posting my picks.**

The final week of the regular season is always a sketchy time to pick teams in any survivor/suicide pool since until the last couple weeks of the season you have no idea which teams could be resting players or still fighting for playoff spots, but my previous picks this season have left me with what I consider a relatively safe option this week.

So for the last time this season… Recap and the pick of the week:

Week 1: Seattle Seahawks over the Saint Louis Rams.  Seattle 28, Saint Louis 0.

Week 2: Washington Redskins over the Saint Louis Rams. Washington 9, Saint Louis 7.

Week 3: Philadelphia Eagles over the Kansas City Chiefs. Philadelphia 34, Kansas City 14.

Week 4: Chicago Bears over the Detroit Lions. Chicago 48, Detroit 24.

Week 5: Dallas Cowboys over the Kansas City Chiefs. Dallas 26, Kansas City 20.

Week 6: Pittsburgh Steelers over the Cleveland Browns.  Pittsburgh 27, Cleveland 14.

Week 7:  San Diego Chargers over the Kansas City Chiefs. San Diego 37, Kansas City 7.

Week 8: Houston Texans over the Buffalo Bills.  Houston 31, Buffalo 10.

Week 9: Atlanta Falcons over the Washington Redskins. Atlanta 31, Washington 17.

Week 10: Denver Broncos over the Washington Redskins.  Washington 27, Denver 17.

Week 11: Jacksonville Jaguars over the Buffalo Bills.  Jacksonville 18, Buffalo 15.

Week 12: Green Bay Packers over the Detroit Lions. Green Bay 34, Detroit 12.

Week 13: Carolina Panthers over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Carolina 16, Tampa Bay 6.

Week 14: New England Patriots over the Carolina Panthers. New England 20, Carolina 10.

Week 15: Arizona Cardinals over the Detroit Lions. Arizona 31, Detroit 24.

Week 16: Cincinnati Bengals over the Kansas City Chiefs. Cincinnati 17, Kansas City 10.

Week 17: Baltimore Ravens over the Oakland Raiders. (Score TBD)

So Baltimore is still alive and relatively well in the playoff race, and a much better team than Oakland.  Also, Oakland has had a rough season and has nothing left to play for.  Although the game is in Oakland, I don’t see that being much of a factor.  Joe-Cool Flacco should have no problem hitting Mason and Ray Rice should have a pretty damn good game as well.  Hopefully I see some of my competition get strikes this week so I don’t have to split winnings with as many people.

Also on a betting note I took Jacksonville (+1.5) against Cleveland.  I understand the Jags got worked last week, or as Emmitt would say “Blowd out!” but c’mon, its the Browns, who have nothing to play for, and because it is a 1 o’clock game, Jax still should have motivation to play for a playoff spot.  What I mean is that with a win and 4 of the other 6 wild card teams losing, the Jags make the playoffs.  If they had a 4 o’clock game they would already know if they were eliminated, but it being one of the early games, they have no reason not to try to win.
