Wow.  I got my third strike in week 5.  That is embarrassing.  At this point obviously nobody is using my picks, and who could blame them, but in my defense, this NFL season has been about as far from predictable as could be going into week 6.

The Lions, with their 1-4 record have a +14 point differential**, the Super Bowl Champion Saints are one spot out of last in their division (as are their Super Bowl opponent and perennial powerhouse Colts). The Chiefs lead the AFC West with one loss (and that one loss is to the Colts).

I could drone on and on but I figure you get my point.  Anyway, I really don’t want to end my picking season on a 2-3 and out record, so I will continue to post picks in the hopes that I get out of this rut (and also hopefully to show that my elimination was a fluke, but I wouldn’t hold your breath).  So with all that out of the way, I will get back to the picks.

Well, I am still around, for better or for worse.  Having picked up my first 2 strikes in the first 4 weeks of the season, I wonder what my odds actually are of staying alive until the end.  Like I said in some earlier posts, I have gotten money out of this pool my entire career in it ( 3 years) so this is unfamiliar territory to me.  I am changing my strategy and am now going to be picking teams higher in the power-rankings.  Houston came through for me last week, and I am hoping that Drew Brees can lead the Saints over a hot-n-cold but mostly cold Arizona.

So I am picking abysmally this year, and if things continue the way they have been going, this will be my last post of the season.  I hope that is not the case, but only time will tell. I have also never been in this position in a pool like this before.  I generally make it to the last few weeks of the season before I get into strike trouble, and at that point I still have plenty of safer-bet teams to choose from.  Now I am going to have to pick the “safest” game of the week for the rest of the season.  I am not liking my odds, especially with the gems I have been taking.
