
I don’t truly believe anyone in this country should be offended by the “Indian-thing” at this point. I do find it awesome (see: hilarious) that we all learn in elementary school that naming the inhabitants of North America “Indians” was a total screw up by Chris Columbus. Interestingly enough, from that day forward Americans with a strong believe (no matter how wrong) were empowered to “just go with it.”
I don’t need to give one of the dozens and dozens of daily examples that I see. We need to look no further than the Columbus gaff. To this day, if you are rattling off an anecdote about the original inhabitants of North America, you likely say “Indians.” It just slips out. Even if you know that it’s really incorrect, it happens.
But, we are Americans, so go with it.
