OWS is back to welcome you to the weekend with another WTTW post!
When I started writing this post there had only been one post since September 5th. Today is October 5th. I’m not mathematician but that’s just about a full month. Calling such a posting schedule sporadic would be an understatement. This has not exactly been the way things have gone here at OWS over the past 4 years. Shit, it’s been 4 years. That in itself is hard to comprehend.
But, onward and upward. There is nothing like a ridiculous analogy to get things rolling again.
Now, I’m back. OWS is back. But just how “back” are we really?
OWS has had times when 4-5 posts in a day were common. Fuck, it’s hard to comprehend how anyone can have time to do such a thing. Those days are long gone. Next there was an era of 2-3 posts with just a bit more quality. That’s still too much work. And most recently, the last year or so, I generally posted just once a day. Still, once a day is a lot. It’s a significant commitment to post that regularly with any type of quality.
To be clear; in the broad scheme of things OWS ain’t shit. We know this. I’ve always known that. Are we trying to be Deadspin? Big Lead? Barstool? Bleacher Report? Yes. No. Maybe so. All I know is at least OWS contains more quality content than good ‘ole B/R. So we’ve got that going for us, if nothing else.
Yes, I apparently have a “thing” against Bleacher Report, as seen here among other places. It’s not just B/R, though. It’s all the content farm sites. There is a fine line between growing pageviews and trolling for them. Take Business Insider for instance. They do a very good job of toeing that line. B/R could be a illegitimate player in regards to quality content by following a more Business Insider-like approach. Was the purchase all about boosting pageviews to increase ad-rates? We will see what SI/Turner wants to do with B/R in the future.
Speaking of better quality writers than B/R — who is this new Darren cat penning these hot sports takes?
Darren has written for Bloguin, and other outlets in the past. As you may have already noticed, he will be spitting out hot takes on the NFL this fall. Additionally, he may be able to bring up the level of NHL competence here at OWS (if the league ever gets its shit together).
Welcome aboard, Darren! More specifics on Darren and the future of OWS in the coming days and weeks.
Enjoy your weekend, people.
