If you can ever call a 5-11 season an overachieving one; this might be the one. With victories over the Eagles, Bengals, Steelers, Broncos and Chiefs, the Raiders moved out of the NFL basement.
Now comes the time when the franchise really shines. It’s the NFL off-season of course. While other teams are moving at a pace that shows some type of urgency, as often the case, Al Davis has a different approach.
The San Francisco Chronicle says that Davis’ Raiders have interviewed at least two candidates for a head coaching job that is not yet officially vacant. The candidates are former Giants head man Jim Fassel. You might recognize the name… Fassel of the UFL world champion Las Vegas Locomotives-fame. The second candidate is a former Raiders offensive coordinator named Marc Trestman. Trestman is head man up north for CFL champion Montreal Alouettes.
Sounds like some prestigious names and hot competition… for a job that isn’t actually available yet…
