1.
St. Louis Rams
Sam Bradford QB – If the Rams believe that Sam Bradford can be a franchise caliber quarterback, he should be their selection. However, there’s always a possibility that they are happy with AJ Feely as a starter and will draft a quarterback in the later rounds. They could also swing a trade for Donovan McNabb or Michael Vick. If any of those scenarios play out then Suh is the pick here.
2.
Detroit Lions
Russell Okung OT- The Lions need to protect Matt Stafford at all costs. He already has the beginnings of a fantastic surrounding cast (Calvin Johnson, Brandon Pettigrew, Nate Burleson, Bryant Johnson) and if he can remain upright the Lions could really compete offensively in their division.
3.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Gerald Mccoy DT- I’ve been hearing rumblings the Bucs want to draft a wideout for Josh Freeman to grow with so look out for Dez Bryant as a dark horse. However, Mccoy reminds many of a taller Warren Sapp and fits perfect in the Cover 2 scheme that Raheem Morris runs. If he’s still here, they cannot pass him up in favor of a wide receiver with character concerns.
4.
Washington Redskins
Ndamukong Suh DE/DT- More than likely Mike Shannahan/Bruce Allen were hoping Russell Okung would fall to them at four but Suh is quite the consolation prize. Suh fits better in the 3-4 scheme that Jim Haslet will be running and could give the Redskins a rather intimidating front paired with Albert Haynesworth. This pick could easily be Jimmy Clausen but Shannahan is more likely to draft a quarterback in the second or third rounds.
5.
Kansas City Chiefs
Brian Bulaga T- Kirk Firentz & Scott Pioli are BFF and Bulaga could contribute right away. Though I have a funny feeling this is where Jimmy Clausen goes because the Chiefs will be looking to trade back if Russell Okung is off the board.
6.
Seattle Seahawks
CJ Spiller RB – Dynamic game changer that can bring a spark to an otherwise dull offense. This draft is deep and Pete Carroll should be able to find a quality tackle in the second round.
7.
Cleveland Browns
Eric Berry S – Without a question, the best player available and fills a huge need. If Berry is still available when the Browns choose Holmgreen will sprint (ok waddle) his way to the podium to turn in his draft card.
8.
Raiders
Jason Pierre-Paul DE- Al Davis loves work out warriors.
9.
Buffalo Bills
Dez Bryant WR – For some odd reason, the Bills want to win now instead of taking the time to build a contender. If thats the case, its unlikely they draft a QB in the first round. I think that Chan Gailey will see his former wide receiver Calvin Johnson when he sees Bryant.
10.
Jacksonville Jaguars
Joe Haden CB – In the pass happy AFC South, the Jaguars need all the cornerback help they can get when facing Peyton Manning and Matt Schaub.
11.
Denver Broncos
Jimmy Clausen QB – The Broncos have so many needs on the offensive and defensive lines its hard to know what they will do. Having said that, Clausen is already familiar with Josh McDaniels system and could buy McDaniels another year in Denver if the fails to make the playoffs for the second year.
12.
Miami Dolphins
Brandon Graham DE/OLB- Jason Taylor is 36 years old and Joey Porter was just cut. Youth at the 3-4 outside linebacker position is a must.
13.
San Francisco 49ers
Trent Williams OT- The 49ers are said to be enamored with CJ Spiller and looking to trade into the top 10 in order to nab him. They certainly have the draft ammunition so don’t be shocked if they do. However, with Spiller off the board and the 49ers staying put, offensive tackle is a need and Williams is great value here.
14.
Seattle Seahawks
Taylor Mays S – Peter Carrol started as a secondary coach and Mays already knows his defensive system. Carrol will want a vocal locker room leader like Mays to help implement his system.
15.
NY Giants
Sean Weatherspoon OLB/ILB – Rolando Mcclain is being mocked here in most mock drafts but in my opinion he is more of a 3-4 Inside Linebacker. Weatherspoon had a fantastic career at Missouri, is a high character prospect, and had an absolute beat of a combine. He’s a poor mans Aaron Curry and has the ability to man any linebacker position.
16.
Tennessee Titans
Derrick Morgan DE – Not only is this a fantastic value but it fills the void that Kyle Vanden Bosch left when he signed with the Detroit Lions.
—————————————————————-
17.
San Francisco 49ers
Earl Thomas S – The 49ers need to improve their secondary and some believe that Earl Thomas is the best saftey in the draft. He can provide immediate value at saftey and in nickel situations.
18.
Pittsburgh Steelers
Rolando Mcclain ILB – Year after year the Steelers draft the best player available regardless of position. Guard is a bigger need but Mcclain should not have lasted this far and the steelers need youth at the inside linebacker position. They’ve already tried to sign the ancient Larry Foote whom they cut last year.
19.
Atlanta Falcons
Everson Griffen DE – With Jamaal Anderson registering in as a bust and John Abraham in his thirties, youth is needed on the defensive line.
20.
Houston Texans – Kyle Wilson CB – With the loss of Dunta Robinson and Earl Thomas, as well as Joe Haden off the board, the Texans will look to Wilson. Wilson had a strong career at Boise State and a great combine. He has been flying up the boards as of late and could be taken ahead of Joe Haden if Haden falters at his pro day.
21.
Cincinnati Bengals
Carlos Dunlap DE – Fantastic Talent. Character Problems. Drafted by the Bengals. Book it.
22.
New England Patriots
Sergio Kindle OLB/DE – When your best pass rusher is Tully Benta-Cain, an upgrade at outside linebacker is needed. Kindle is also somewhat familar with Belichick’s scheme as he played for Will Muschamp at Texas.
23.
Green Bay Packers
Anthony Davis T – With the addition of Julius Peppers to the NFC North, the Packers have even more reason to protect Aaron Rodgers.
24.
Philadelphia Eagles
Brian Price DT – Andy Reid loves drafting defensive lineman in the first round and the Eagles already have a ton of cash from last year invested on offense.
25.
Baltimore Ravens
Jared Odrick DE/DT- Kelly Gregg and Trevor Pryce are ancient and Newsome typically drafts best player available. With the aquisition of Anquan Boldin its unlikely that the Ravens go offense here.
26.
Arizona Cardinals
Jerry Hughes DE/OLB – The Cardinals lost so many players on defense, taking the best pass rusher left on the board in Jerry Hughes is an easy move.
27.
Dallas Cowboys
Charles Brown T- Athletic former tight end that can replace the aging and oft penalized Flozell Adams.
28.
San Diego Chargers
Ryan Matthews RB – This might be the surest pick in the draft if Matthews is still there when the Chargers pick. Matthews is the best all around running back in the draft and in most years he would go in the top 15.
29.
New York Jets
Dan Williams NT – A great rotational nose tackle to pair with Kris Jenkins and eventually replace him.
30.
Minnesota Vikings
Jhavid Best RB- With the loss of Chester Taylor, the Vikings need another running back to assist in taking some of the word load off of Adrian Peterson. Another offensive weapon could also help lure back Brett Favre as well.
31.
Indianapolis Colts
Mike Iupati G – Best player available and goes with rule number one, protect Peyton Manning.
32.
New Orleans Saints
Novorro Bowman OLB – With Scott Fujita leaving to sign with the Browns, the Saints need to add youth and depth to their linebacking corps.
