Fedor Knocks Out Brett Rogers On CBS

fedor-knock-out-brett-rogersA bloodied Fedor remains many people’s top pound for pound fighter in the world after Saturday’s fight on CBS.

Word is that CBS and Strikeforce are happy with the rating that Saturday night’s fights brought to CBS. The primetime portion of Fedor vs. Rogers drew an average of 3.79 million viewers. This is down from CBS’ last MMA event which averaged 4.3 million viewers according to TVbythenumbers.com.

These number can be a bit misleading as the “primtime numbers” will not include the main event which started late. I almost found that out the hard way as my DVR barely captured the post fight interview; luckily I put a 15 minute extension on the recording. Word is that the fights also beat out college football on ABC and gives CBS the win in the all important male 18-34 demo.

As far as the actual fight; it was one punch early in round two that stopped Rogers dead in his tracks. Prior, it was an entertaining first round. A round that saw Fedor immediately bloodied as Rogers connected with a jab to the bridge of Fedor’s nose.

It looks like Fabricio Werdum might be up next to attempt to dethrone The Last Emperor. Personally, a match-up that I find very unappealing.

I want to know what the casual fans reaction was when they saw a Fedor walkout in as poor a physical shape as ever. I can just imagine the thoughts running through those who had been unexposed to Fedor to this point. But the Russian keeps winning. What Strikeforce needs is an American fighter that has a compelling name or story that people can get behind; America vs Russia will still sell.
