As we move into week 7 I feel as though I owe our readers a better explanation of what this post is. Recently the comments on these posts have criticized the picks I’m making, saying they do not have guts and that anyone can make these picks. These people have made it clear to me that I did not broadcast the nature of this post well enough. So here goes.
This post is me making public the team I am taking in a survivor pool I am in. 80 people bought in @ $20.00 a piece (that’s a total of $1600.00 for the winner). With the potential to win $1600.00 and only spend 20, I am making my picks with extreme caution. I do not win more money for riskier picks, nor am I trying to make a name for myself as an NFL guru. I am playing to win, and I figure I am not the only person in a survivor league out there (I know there are at least 79 others) so if my strategy and the picks I make can help someone else win money, why not put them online. I went 16-1 last year and won it all last year, so unless last year was a fluke, and the fact that I am 6-0 thus far this year is a fluke, I feel my strategy is working pretty well. So for those of you who I am helping, I will continue to post. Those of you who were looking for more in this post, I apologize. And now that the explanation is out of the way, here are my picks thus far, and for this week:
Week 1: Seattle Seahawks over the Saint Louis Rams. Seattle 28, Saint Louis 0.
Week 2: Washington Redskins over the Saint Louis Rams. Washington 9, Saint Louis 7.
Week 3: Philadelphia Eagles over the Kansas City Chiefs. Philadelphia 34, Kansas City 14.
Week 4: Chicago Bears over the Detroit Lions. Chicago 48, Detroit 24.
Week 5: Dallas Cowboys over the Kansas City Chiefs. Dallas 26, Kansas City 20.
Week 6: Pittsburgh Steelers over the Cleveland Browns. Pittsburgh 27, Cleveland 14.
Week 7: San Diego Chargers over the Kansas City Chiefs. (Score TBD)
I wanted to take a worse team this week, but most of the lower end of the NFL is playing an upper echelon team this week (St. Louis plays Indy, Tampa Bay plays the Patriots, etc.). The only 2 sub-par teams in what I would consider close matches is San Fran over Houston (but I think Houston will win, not on the San Fran bandwagon yet) and Carolina over the Bills, which is completely possible, but I don’t want to risk a strike on a game like that. All those options out the window, I took the Chargers, mainly because I hate them, and if I was forced to pick them later in the season and they lost a close game I might kill someone, but also because I think they will pick the Chiefs apart this week.
On a betting note, this week I have money on Cincinnati (-1.5) against Chicago, Philadelphia Eagles (-7) against the Washington Redskins (after a showing like last week the Eagles need to come out firing) and the Chargers (-5) against Kansas City (I think it’ll by Chargers by a touchdown at least). Also a small explanation of the spreads after the team I bet on, I use Bodog.com to bet (which seems to have spreads 1/2 point different than everywhere else), and I bet early, so those spreads may not be available anymore.
