The McCourts; Dodgers Owner And CEO Are Seperated

frank-and-jamie-mccourtLos Angeles Dodgers owner Frank McCourt and his wife, who is also the Dodgers Chief Executive Officer, Jamie McCourt have officially separated. The big punchline here is that in the case in which the McCourts divorce, each would be entitled to half of the Dodgers franchise under California law.

Could that front office be more dysfunctional than even the Raiders?

McCourt purchased of the Dodgers from News Corp. in January 2004 for about $430 million. Side note; check out the Los Angeles Business Journal which wrongly reports the purchase at just $271 million. In any case, according the Forbes the team is now worth over $700M.

The problem is that now, with these new issues, that $700M doesn’t look so great. In fact, it looks a lot more like $350M.

The McCourts issued a statement Wednesday saying that they would no longer be issuing statements:

“Frank McCourt and Jamie McCourt confirm that they are separated. This is a personal matter and they request that their privacy be respected. They will be making no public statements.”

On a better note, the Dodgers start their NLCS series with the Phillies tonight.
