There Are 8 Rules At Collierville High School

collervillePolice say they will charge 31 people after discovering a ‘‘fight club’’ involving Collierville High School students. Police were able to identify participants through videos posted on YouTube.

The Memphis Commercial Appeal says Tennessee state law makes it a Class C misdemeanor “for any person or persons to engage in what is known as prize fighting or boxing with or without gloves, or in other brutal sport or exhibition, whereby bruising, maiming, or other serious bodily injury may result to the boxers or participants unless regulated” by other statutes.

The AP is reporting that three of those involved are 18 or older and will be charged as adults. That’s a fine line. Should those who are 18 really be held at such a higher standard than someone who is just months, weeks or days younger and happens to be 17?

Thus far pop culture references in news reports have been limited to Brad Pitt’s Fight Club rather than Dana White’s UFC. Hopefully it will stay that way.
