The 2009 NFL wins over/unders are rolling right along. We are heading East and finishing up the NFC.
The NFC East was arguably the best division from top to bottom last year. Even the last place Redskins were a force at one point in 2008. It ended up being one of those cases where the teams ended up beating each other up within the division and in the end only the Giants came out with a winning division record.
Dallas Cowboys – 9
So I guess people think this is going to be a team “free from the
torment of T.O.” because 9 is a big number here. I’m going to take the other side in this argument. Owens is a pro bowl caliber player who will no longer be suiting up in Dallas. I don’t care how obnoxious Terrell was, on Sunday’s the ‘Boys are going to miss him.
The bigger change might be another departure; Jessica Simpson. If Romo goes off and has a breakout season I don’t want to hear people talking about Romo being out from the shadow of T.O. The truth is that Yoko Romo is gone!
The question is which departure will weigh heavier on the Cowboys in 2009.
Pick: Under 9
New York Giants – 10
The G-men are again the favorites to win the East. Running back Brandon Jacobs isn’t too worried. Jacobs is taking my side in the Romo debate. He told a local radio station, “The best thing to do is keep Romo in the pocket. He can’t beat you from there. I don’t think he is that effective when you do that. And I just don’t think he’s that great of a passer, either.”
The big question is in the Giants passing attack. Can Eli step up without star gunslingin’ wideout Plaxico Burress. Burress provided a ton of fire power to the offense and it is a real shot in the leg to lose him at this point.
On that note…
Pick: Under 10

Philadelphia Eagles – 9.5
The Eagles have again shown that they are not afraid to make moves in the off-season. I think this is the team to beat in the division.
Looking at their schedule, the Eagles start out with what could be a cakewalk; @Carolina, New Orleans, Kansas City, bye, Tampa Bay, and at Oakland. If we aren’t seeing a 4-1 or 5-0 Eagles team then things might not be heading in the direction of late January football in Philly.
With that beginning to the season, I think the Eagles are a lock to hit 10+ wins.
Pick: Over 9.5
Washington Redskins – 8
The last stop today is in the nations capital. It is hard for me to say that a team that has a quarterback that I do not trust will win 9 games. That i
s the case here. I don’t think Jason Campbell is a 9 or 10 game winner, that is especially the case within this great division.
I’m not going to say that Campbell was bad last season. He wasn’t. However he is not good enough to make a not-so-good offense that much better.
And no matter how much the ‘Skins are going to pay Albert Haynesworth and no matter how much I believe that defense wins over offense, the Redskins are in need of some start power on the offensive side of the ball.
Pick: Under 8

Giants are gonna have a tough time scoring points with a so-so receivng core/quarterback and without Derrick Ward’s 1,000+ yards. I do really like Hakeem Nicks and Jacobs though.
