It has become a popular opinion that the likely hood of the off-season formally known as “2010 free agent chaos” actually being a big bust is pretty good. Meaning; LeBron will more than likely stay in Cleveland and Wade will remain in Miami. Meaning; really not as much will be changing as previously advertised.
I am not so sure that will be the case.
I think Wade is as good as gone. Miami has not been able to make a single move in the right direction yet this off-season. The Heat need to contend next season. They need to impress D-Wade. They need to do enough to make Wade think that the front office will make enough movement in the future to keep the Heat relevant. They need to be certain that Wade wants to stay.
You would think the team located on South Beach, the team that can offer Wade the most money and the only NBA team that Wade has ever called home would have a commanding advantage. I’m not so sure that is the case.
Leading up to the NBA Draft the Heat were airily quite. Unfortunately, help is not on the way in the form of that draft that just happened. The Heat had two late second round picks. Those picks took the form of Marcus Thornton (LSU) and Robert Dozier (Memphis) rather than making those picks into one higher pick or moving those picks for a piece to be used this year.
Okay, so it’s not so easy to get a dancing partner and get such a deal done. That’s the beauty of free agency and having a team located in one of the more desirable locations in the continental United States.
Now comes word that the best option the Heat are starring right in the face is Allen Iverson. I understand a team who is not a contender going and getting Iverson to put some butts in the seats. However, this is insane on the Heat’s part. The Heat need real, legitimate production not an aging talent who is so far beyond his prime it’s laughable.
This is the most important off-season for the Heat. Yes, they put Shaq on South Beach with D-Wade but that is the past. Not only is that in the past but that seems like decades ago. Following that championship was the most pathetic title defense since another Miami resident; the Marlins.
What have you done for Wade lately? This abysmal off-season could be what sticks in the mind of Wade one year from now. Wouldn’t it be a nice story for Dwyane for return to his hometown of Chicago with Derrick Rose?
