Marbury: Don’t Sign With Knicks

The New York Post has some interesting quotes from their cities former star point guard. “I wouldn’t want to play in that system. That system can’t win championships. You can’t win championships if you don’t talk about defense,” Marbury said.

He went on to comment on the Knicks recent draft, “They spent 3 million on a 29th pick. They could’ve given $3 million to Anucha (Browne-Sanders). I knew it was personal. It’s about ego and power. I’ve never been so happy to be out of someplace. The way I was treated, lied to, grown men doing this that have stature.” Come to think of it, $3 million for the rights to the 29th pick in the draft might be a little much.Marbury is clearly still not ready to let the failed New York experiment go. It’s tough to 100% back Starbury as he is not a proven good character guy nor has he proven to be a born winner. Still, at the same time the Knicks been nothing short of a bad character, proven loser for some time now.

It’s bad when an ownership group can make players run from the hills from one of the more desirable cities in the country to play in. One year to get their act together before Summer 2010. That is where the true test will lie.

If you recall D’Antoni was at the helm of the Suns when GM Colangelo sold Marbury’s suffocating contract to New York. Marbury had signed a four-year extension, worth more than $75 million earlier that  season. It seems that five years later D’Antoni still can’t get out from under the burden of that Marbury contract.

As for Starbury; who knows where Marbury will end-up. He will undoubtedly get a shot somewhere and he at least deserves that.
