The AP got their hands on Duke’s most recent IRS documents today. The documents show that the university paid coach Mike Krzyzewski more than $3.6 million during the previous fiscal year.
Apparently Krzyzewski’s salary is 3 1/2 times that of Duke’s next highest-paid employee. That employee is a Chancellor emeritus who made about $980,000. Yes, emeritus means they don’t really do much and are essentials semi-retired.
People should think twice before they go off the deep end about how ridiculous it is for an athletics coach to be making so much more than anyone else at an educational institution. It seems to me it is more ridiculous for a retired chancellor to be making a cool millie while sitting at home in Durham.
On the other hand, Coack K gives the Dukies some of the best PR money can buy. Beyond that he brings revenue into the school that would not otherwise be there. Just as Jim Calhoun. But be certain you get some facts and then come back and see him…
