Brandon Jennings starred at Dominguez High School in Compton, CA. as well as Oak Hill in Virginia. But everyone remembers Brandon Jennings as the high school basketball star who passed up a chance to play at Arizona (as well as other prominent So Cal schools) to get paid to play in Europe.
Jennings stock has gone up and down over the past year. Jennings may have inked a cool million dollar deal with Under Armour but his numbers were less than amazing overseas.
In the Italian League Jennings averaged, 5.5 points, 1.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 17 minutes per game. In the Euroleague Jennings averaged 7.6 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 20 minutes per game. In the Euroleague he shot 38.7 percent from the floor.
Ricky Rubio has been a star overseas since he was 14 years old. Rubio
has been a consensus top 3 pick over the past year while Jennings has toiled in the teens. Jennings claimed he shut Rubio down when playing him head to head. Although neither players stats were great in the game in question, Rubio was coming off a wrist injury from the Olympics.
Jennings told the Sac Bee, “I think the dude is just all hype.” He added, “I can’t even front you know, I’m just going to be real with you guys.”
Ironically before committing to Arizona, Jennings said he would be attending USC. If he was slick enough he could have been paid to play for the Trojans…
…too soon?
