The Red Sox pitchers manhandled the Drays this afternoon. Other than Okajima, who is usually a mess, the Beckett/Masterson/Papelbon combo allowed only 2 hits.
Beckett held on for a strong 7 innings, allowing 2 hits, and 1 earned run for an ERA of 1.29. He looked great and was dominant in hitting his spots. Masterson came in for a strong 2 outs after Okajima allowed 2 runs over the course of an out. Papelbon came in for a quick 3 hits, wasting no time.
If Beckett stays healthy, the Sox are going to be unhittable (as long as Okajima doesn’t pull this crap again). However, it’s game 1 of 162, there is still a lot of baseball to be played, and I for one, am ready for the season.
