I can’t say that I have ever been the most knowledgeable hockey fan around. Still, I have always enjoyed it casually. From seeing games live to All-Star Weekend festivities to the NHL Playoffs. Not to mention the new Winter Classic which is tailored made for the casual fan.
This weekend is the 2009 NHL All-Star game and skills challenge. This is the schedule:
Saturday 7 ET – Honda NHL Superskills
Sunday 6 ET – NHL All-Star Game
Some tidbits from the game:
- There are 16 first time all stars on this years rosers. Not to mention 4 of them are goalies. Only 2 of the 6 goalies played in a prior all star game; Roberto Luongo and Tim Thomas.
- The West squad is a good deal more experienced than the East. The East does not have a single player with more than 3 all star games under their belt. On the other hand, the West has 6. This included Nicklas Listrom, Mike Modano and Joe Thornton; who have 10, 6 and 5 games a piece. Keith Tkachuk, Rob Niedermayer and Jerome Iginla all have 4 a piece.
- Unfortunately, Sid The Kid will have to sit out and watch the festivities.
- Of all the players participating, Dany Heatley has the most all star goals with a total of 5 in 2 games. Rich Nash also has 5 goals in his 3 apperances.
- Modano has the most assists with a grand total of 8 in his 6 all star games.
Unfortunately, I don’t think Versus will be using FOX’s cutting edge “glowing puck” technology.
