Mark Schlereth: Reggie Bush is not a good football player

mark-schlareth-nfl-live-espn

I didn’t have to go into work this morning so I subjected myself to the end of First Take Cold Pizza and then some NFL Live.

I listened to Trey Wingo essentially ask Mark Schlereth what the deal was with Reggie Bush and why he hasn’t been a big piece of the Saints offense. Schlereth, with his infinite wisdom, answered with “Reggie Bush is not a good football player”.

Those are  literally the first words to come out of his mouth. Nothing about injuries or Bush being a disappointment for a #2 overall pick. These just seemed like harsh words to me.

It is always a good thing when an analyst throw an opinion out there that is not predictable, especially on ESPN. However, this one made me stop what I was doing as I was a bit shocked. We are talking about a former Heisman winner and a first round pick. Someone who has 4 punt returns in 3 seasons and has proven to be a playmaker when utilized correctly. Sure he will never be an every down back but he is not a complete bust. Given he stays healthy; he will always have a spot on a team. I don’t think there is any argument, Reggie Bush is indeed a good football player. I think we could makeagreat arguement that Mark Schlereth is not a good studio analyst.

This is the same idiot who said “I made a career out of holding” (that’s against the rules) yet then crucified the pats for having a camera in an illegal location (it came out that that is ALL they did wrong.)

So yeah, its completely logical that he can cheat and others can’t, and also that Reggie Bush is not a good football player.

    I hate him.

He was right about the Cheatriots. ALL they did wrong was film the other team’s signals? Yeah, and all OJ did was commit double murder.

And everyone holds. Every play. Especially Matt Light.

Guess what? Reggie Bush isn’t a good football player. He’s a great athlete, but his skills don’t translate well into the pro game. He’s a big baby who cares more about style points and GQ covers than fundamental football. He has 4 career return TD’s – two of which he was flagged for pointing in the opponent’s face. They also lost both games, one of which was the NFC Championship.

I don’t like ESPN, but I have a lot of respect of Schlereth. Dude used to piss on himself during games so he wouldn’t have to go to the bench. He was just calling a spade a spade, something I wish more ESPN ‘analysts’ would do.

I am not saying the pats didn’t cheat, and filming of signals is not against the rules. Watch Goodell’s press conference, he says it is up to the team to protect their signals, the only thing the Pats did against the rules was the LOCATION of the camera. Again I am not saying they should not have been punished, but the only rule they broke was LOCATION. And I know everyone holds, I am just saying holding can have as big of an affect on a game if it goes uncalled that LOCATION of the camera can have.

And reggie bush may not be an every down back, an every down receiver, or even a good back, but he is a good special teams player, and the games that they lost had nothing to do with him returning punts, all that did was decrease the margin of defeat.

I would have to agree with Mark. He speaks the truth. He makes a valid claim and than gives supporting evidence, so he’s not an idiot, he knows his shit. Pierre Thomas came out of no where and demonstrated he is a much more effective back than the overated Busch. Lets see which one starts next year.

This guy’s opinions seem biased to me. Why doesn’t any of these “analysts” CRITICIZE Brett Favre for the way he’s been behaving the last couple of years and his poor production on the field ? Why ? Do you think if it was a Black athlete doing all those things they won’t be killing him with “he was only an athlete”, “he’s selfish” and other things of that nature.

Reggie Bush is A GOOD football player, I don’t care what anybody says. That’s how he won a national title, a Heisman trophy and got drafted in the top 3. Now he may have not lived up to the hype, but he’s a DARN GOOD FOOTBALL PLAYER.
