Hochuli blows call; Shanahan bolts out of town, with win in hand

Ed Hochuli has been a fine official for quite some time in the NFL. It did not show in the last minute of the Chargers/Broncos game yesterday. Cutler fumbled the ball and the Chargers recovered but Hochuli prematurely blew his whistle calling the fumble an incomplete pass. This, of course, is not a reviewable play. Thus the call stands as is and the Broncos retained possession. Cutler took advantage as the Broncos scored then went for a game winning two point conversion.

When Shanahan went for the two points as opposed to kicking the game tieing PAT it said three things to me:

1. Shanahan doesn’t trust his defense to stop this team if the Chargers win the coin flip…
2. Shanahan is a ballsy motha…
3. Shanahan thought, let’s get the F out of here before someone relizes we just stole from the Chargers…

Shanahan is clearly a man who believes in KARMA. If this game had gone to OT the football gods could not have allowed this injustice to be carried out. So Shannahan stuck in that two point conversion while the football gods were reviewing the Cutler fumble on replay.

I am hard pressed to feel bad for the Chargers. If there were such a thing as a Chargers fan, man would they be heated. I am a bit surprised that the story in on the front page of the Union-Tribune.

It’s just awful that this had to happen to such a classy team. Not.

And is this a joke? What was the most crucial aspect of the Broncos’ win against the Chargers? Here are the results so far. The Rocky Mountain news is a joke, their headline reads “The Broncos took control of the AFC West with a wide-open offensive bullying of the San Diego Chargers.” Yeah, that’s the headline. Something like 39-7, 39-13 those are offensive bullyings but 39-38… not so much.
